Title: “IMAGINE...A WORLD FILLED WITH ANIMALS... ALWAYS”
Dream Theme: Conservation
Materials & Techniques Used: Foam, glue, pom poms, pipe cleaners, googlie eyes, ribbon, fabric, leaves, flowers, frop paint.
What is your group’s artwork about?
When we asked the girls which area they wanted to focus on, and what part of the girl scout law our selection represented, several asked why animals weren't one of the choices... .so we incorporated conservation with their love of animals. They chose, "use resources wisely and make the world a better place as portions of the girl scout law that they were addressing, "The world just wouldn't be a good place without animals, Ms. Shannon".. .and I had to agree. We talked about conserving our resources, our land, the animal's habitats and the animals themselves. The girls then decided to design their portion of the project as their own individual favorite animal that they would like to be sure is here for many, many generations to come. When we were discussing the endangered species list and the animals that were already extinct, they were very concerned that there were animals that they would never have the chance to see and wanted to make something that helped the awareness that if we don't change our ways there will be so many more that in 20, 10 even 5 years, there will be a whole new group of children who may never know what a Panda is, and how very irresponsible and terribly sad that would be.

Title:
"We are Water"
Dream Theme: Space, Science, Technology, and Conservation.
Techniques & Materials Used: Applique, decorative sewing, embroidery, and quilting with cotton and PolySheen embroidery threads, on cotton fabric and cotton batting, sewn with  a Bernina Artista 200 sewing/embroidery machine, center embroidery designed with Bernina  Software V6.

What is your artwork about? "My dream is for clean accessible water for everyone. My panel is in recognition of water conservation here on Earth, coinciding with that piece of NASA's interplanetary mission which is to seek out other sources of water.

The quilt blocks used in the embroidery design comprising the body of the rocket include the Log Cabin and the Friendship Star. The Log Cabin block represents stability and the safe haven of home while conjuring the pioneers who braved the unknown to carve out lives based on self reliance. The Friendship Star is a statement of faith in, and responsibility to, our fellows; an olive branch to others, serving as a reminder of the power of two, which is echoed in the two triangles at the top of the rocket. The Red White and Blue rectangles followed by the Mariner's Compass represent the spirit of our country's space program and the fire of humanity's unquenchable desire to keep going."
Did you enjoy this project? Yes, Ironically it really made me "stretch" in order to reduce and summarize into one vision one of so many possible ideas into a small piece.

What other IFC projects could we do? Tribute in Fiber to 9/11 Ten-Year Anniversary in Central Park

Title: “We Need a Solution for Pollution”

Dream Theme: Health, Science (Conservation)

Techniques & Materials Used: Appliqué and embroidery

What is your artwork about?“Our panel depicts how we think the Earth is feeling. With too much pollution and the temperature of our environment rising, the earth is getting sick. If we don't do a better job of taking care of our home, we are afraid it won't be there for our future generations. The thermometer in the earth's mouth indicates that she is not feeling well. The flames and smoke represent the elevated temperatures in our atmosphere. When people view our completed panel, we hope it inspires them to treat our planet with more respect and dignity.”

What other projects could the IFC do? Something that revolves around the former World Trade Center site, with a “peace” theme.

Conservation
Organizer: Maryellen J. Keogh
Techniques & Materials Used: Designs were either drawn and cut out or cut out from Girl Scout Fabric; Letters were stenciled and colored with fabric paint; the pieces were sewn together and backed with a girl scout fabric.
What is your artwork about?
The girls made a Snowgirl. Green was chosen to represent the earth against a blue background to represent the sea and the sky. Girl Scouts promise to live by the Girl Scout Law. Included in the law are a number of things, but the girls chose to focus on the parts that call for Girl Scouts to use resources wisely and make the world a better place.
Going Green reminds us to protect our earth. We have to conserve and preserve our resources. We all have to do out part and the Girl Scouts of Holy Name are trying to theirs and hope you can do yours as well.
Participants: The Girl Scouts of Holy Name include Troops 2356, 2226, 2359, 2402 and 2029
What other projects could the IFC do? The Girl Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary of scouting in this country in 2012 – so maybe a huge Trifoil.

Techniques Used & Materials Used:
The back panel piece is a blue cotton star/space quilt sheet onto which the girls individual white panels
were sewn. The individual white panels are a glittery cotton quilt sheet. The girls used acrylic craft
paint, felt, google eyes, cross-stitching, glitter and yarn to decorate the panel.
Tell us the story behind your panel?
The Juniors of Troop 214 in the Kentucky Wilderness Road Council are working of the "It's Your World — Change It!" Journey in preparation for their Bronze Award. Part of the requirement to earn the "Power of Team" Badge is to come up with-a•"SUpergirl" story to show how a person can take something they care about and strive for long-lasting change. The girls are then to share their story with others. Our girls decided to use the Dream Rocket Project as their way of spreading their stories.
The girls decided on Conservation/Environment as the theme for the panel and each
girl picked a country around the world for which they had concern.
*Lona picked the South American Rainforest area
*Olivia chose Africa
*Katie chose Australia
*Morgan chose Antarctica
Each girl was then given an 11.x 11 inch square and they used acrylic craft paint to make a scene from each country. Then the girls used felt to make different animals and glued them to the squares.
Our Cadette; habella, then used cross-strtehing material felt, yarn and beads to make the sun in the middle of the panel. She used different color glitter to make the name of our panel "Girl Scouts Can Make a Difference All Around the World". Her mother, Kellie, sewed the individual panels onto the blue background.
What else could the IFC do?
Something to do with agriculture or the Appalachian Mountain region.

Materials & Techniques Used: Canvas, Tulle, bird element from Panamanian Inola, Reverse appliqué.
What is the story behind your artwork?
"I wanted to reflect Earth - from water /sea to grass to trees to desert to rocks to sky - thus the brands of color. The bird element from the mola serves as a focal point; dreams, into the sky; looking to the future. The smaller elements are personal, and serve as a memorial to my husband
(cardinal). My Mom (blue jay); and beloved pet ChocoBunny (rabbit) - to cement their place in the cosmos. Everything we have and need to survive comes from Nature - we have one Earth, one set of resources, and so many to use / save these resources. It is my "dream" that this will happen in peaceful and responsible fashion."
Did you enjoy this project?
"This project was particularly enjoyable from a creative standpoint - how to arrange the elements in the panel so they would reflect what I wanted to say -"Save the Environment".
What else could the IFC do?
"I would like to see pennants strung from Sea to Shining Sea. I know that is a tall order! Perhaps something that could be displayed at the upcoming Olympics in London 2012, or Sochi, 2014. "World Peace".

I am the oldest of five. I envisioned this project a family collaboration. We all gather once a
year for Thanksgiving and so it became the perfect venue for this project. My niece, Mariah
designed and drew the pictures and my nieces, nephews and grandchildren did the coloring.
I then scanned them into the computer and then printed them onto cloth. I cut them out and
appliqu~d them onto space fabric. I beaded the eyes. I then used a machine embellisher to frame
the individual animals with various fibers. I added several pieces of silk fusion to simulate
galaxies. I then quilted the piece with variegated thread and finished the edges with yarn.

When we make a real effort to recycle, reuse, and reduce the amount of bottles, cans, plastics, and paper we use, we are making our world a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful place for all the people who live here!"

Title - Our Earth
Dream Theme - Community
Photography, fuzing, paint, fiber and handstitching.
"Our panel for the Dream Rocket was designed by the 5th graders of the Emerson Gridley, after school, Champs program. I worked with the students for a 28 day Artist redency after school from 3-5pm. We spent a number of days in the computer room looking at the Dream Rocket web pages and then talking about all the ideas they had as to a design og their own.
We worked with color theory, did rubbings, learned basic sewing skills and basic design concepts. Each of the 12 students made their own fabric panels that they got to take home at the end of the project. The Dream Rocket project ideas were tossed around and it wasn't until Earth day that we finally committed to an idea. I split the students up into groups and each group was given a letter of the word Earth to act out.
We had a lof of fun working together and the students not only enjoyed hamming it up in the photos, but having their image on the quilt made the project even more important to each of them. Daily discussions were held on the Dream Rocket concept, the individual student's dreams of their future, world events and their community at home.
I know the overall experience is one the children will remember for life."
