Dream Theme; Recycling
Tell us about your panel:
"Thank you for this creative opportunity. My panel is on a theme of recycling. A while back I discovered that the dryer sheets whoch make clothes soft cannot be torn and began saving them for an unknown future art piece. When my son, SSG Dylan Shaw heard about the Dream Rocket project on NPR he called and told me to check it out online. The dryer sheets become my Dream Rocket art piece. I invited my grandchildren, daughter and friends to participate with the only requirement being that they could not buy anything but had to recycle things they already had. Quilts being an early form of recycling seemed a perfect fit.
The sewuined pieces are leftovers from a prom dress. Candy wrappers, petals from a piece of jewelry that belonged to her great grandmother and keys bedeck 6 year old Lucy's sheet.Friend Carol recycled memories of Christmas and recycled projects. 4 year old Tess used some of her favorite stickers and some starsfrom a window display. Daughter Morgan created a sewuined butterfly adorned with bottle caps picked up on a walk. Leftover blanket edging from a previous project helps to tie it all together. All the pieces have been stitched down with clear thread and the center row has been coated with Golden acrylic medium. Permanent markers and acrylic paint were also used. Participants range in age from 4 to 65 and are as follows:Toni Seccomb, Morgan McKenzie, Tess McKenzie and Carol Westine."
