Imagination (108)
Quest Group A (2nd IG Gifted Students) and Northeast Elementary School

Teacher: Mrs. Cynthia D. Willis
Title: Dream Big – Actions Make Dreams Come True
Theme: Inventors and Inventions
Materials and Techniques: We used painter drop cloth canvas, fabric markers, acrylic paints, and fabric for backing. We used the sketches we made and each member of the group added items to the panel. The teacher sewed the fabric to the panel for the border and backing.
Why did students choose this theme and design? The group enjoyed working on this project. The class did a unit on Inventors and Inventions and learned that the future belongs to those who dare to dream. Everyone must learn to dream and use their imaginations. They used the quote by Albert Einstein- “Imagination is better than knowledge” as their inspiration. The students learned that we must be willing to try new things and take risk. They learned that many of the inventions we enjoy are mistakes that people made when they tried to invent something else. Each student added quotes to the panel to encourage others to use their imaginations.
Participants: Cynthia Willis, Teacher of Gifted Students; Tracey LaTayjai, Kymmie, Preston, Katilyn, Eboni, Elizabeth, Kyle, Ethan, Halee, and Elijah

What is your artwork about? Imagination, Space, Freedom
Artwork 1: No Essay
Artwork 2: Essay by Dakota“My picture is about imagination. It shows that no matter what you’re made of you are capable of imagination. There is also a metaphor of how sometimes society tries to discourage imaginative thoughts. That is what I think of my picture; however art is meant to be interpreted any way you like.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Richard“My artwork is about imagination. You can tell because I drew outer space and it is filled with random stuff. It has the planets, the Nyan cat, a turtle, and a space ship with a smiley face. It looks really cool and expresses my imagination.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Aaliyah“My art work project is about Breast Cancer. I feel so sorry for everybody that has cancer. I know that you will have to be a strong person through it all. If there was any way I could help people out, I would. I am happy that I am breast cancer free. I don’t know if I could be strong like most women that have it. And I’m very happy and proud for the women that are still fighting for their life.”

Number of participants: 2 - 6
Materials and techniques used: Colored pencils, and markers
Participants: Bailey, Ty, Alaina, Mary
What is your artwork about? Exploring, space, imagination
Artwork 1: Essay by Bailey“My picture represents the theme “recycle” because I have the recycling symbol. I also have recyclable items on the picture. Recycling is important to the present because it stops littering and global warming. Recycling is important to the future because it will make the world cleaner. If everyone recycles the world will be a better place.”
Artwork 2: Essay by Ty“My design represents the themes space, freedom, and art. The flag represents freedom, the astronaut, moon and stars represents space, and the paint cans and the paint roller represents art. My theme is important because space exploration is important to science. We need to keep space exploration for future purposes.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Mary“My design represents my theme of space. The moon and planets are the outer space. The little girl is looking at the moon with wonder and amaze. This theme is important to the future because learning about the mysteries of space can improve our knowledge. The wonders of the children today will cause future explorations.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Alaina“My design represents imagination by being unique and not being realistic. My theme is important to the future because it shows hope and without imagination the world cannot keep moving forward. Imagination gives the country ideas to invent and it is the way we continue to make money. My design represents the imagination moving forward because it shows moving from a dark time to a good time.”

Title: Imagine Space
Theme Chosen: Space, Recycle, Freedom, Art, Imagination/ Community

Theme Chosen: Imagination, peace, America, Breast Cancer Awareness/ Community
Number of participants: 2 - 6
Materials and techniques used: Colored pencils, and markers
Participants: Aaliyah, Richard, Dakota, Beau
What is your artwork about? Health, peace, freedom, imagination
Artwork 1: No Essay Provided
Artwork 2: Essay by Brittany“The theme I used for my Dream Rocket Project is imagination. I demonstrated the theme imagination by painting Spongebob and the rainbow of imagination. To combine my painting and the project, I drew the background using another theme, space. I think it is important for people to have an imagination. Imagination helps people think beyond what they already know. This can be the cause of great ideas or inventions. Everyone needs imagination in their life.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Megan“My drawing represents the Dream Rocket flying into hope and to cure cancer. My theme represents hope. People need hope when fighting with any type of cancer. My theme is important because one day they will find a cure for cancer. People in my family have been affected with cancer. I believe that with hope on day there will be a cure.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Halye“I used emphasis because my peace sign is emphasized. I did peace and music because I feel that they go together. Music allows people to express their feelings instead of holding things in. It also can help others deal with their feelings because they can relate. I also did peace because it brings people together, reminds others to not judge or hate because everyone has their own issues at the end of the day. It also teaches people to look past their difference and to love regardless. This is important to the future because without peace and music people wouldn’t be able to look past their differences and would probably have a lot of hate and mixed feelings.”

Theme Chosen: Music, education, and imagination / Community
Number of participants: 2 - 6

Participants: Savannah, Bailey, Naquan, Mary
What is your artwork about? Music, education, and imagination
Artwork 1: Essay by Mary“My picture is about imagination. My most imaginative dream have been like my picture, colorful. When I hear the word imagination I think of an alternate world where the sky is a rainbow, the sun is a giant and light-bulb air balloons populate the sky.”
Artwork 2: Essay by Naquan“The topic I decided to draw on is art and music. Therefore in my drawing I combined art tools, with musical art. The reason I did this is because I feel the two correspond. That’s why I decided art and music.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Bailey“My dream theme is education. All the aspects of my drawing are representative of an educational atmosphere. Rulers and apples are classic symbols of a school or teacher.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Savannah“My theme is imagination. This picture shows my theme because it’s random. It’s original. It shows that no matter who it is, no one’s imagination is the same. No one can control your imagination. You’re free to dream what you want. There is no “wrong” imagination.

Artwork 1: Essay by Dylan“I think my drawing illustrates the space theme very well. I drew an Astronaut standing on our moon. The sun and another planet are visible.”
Artwork 2: Essay by Mackenzie“My drawing is symbolic for spiritual meditation. He has an out-of body experience with ‘shrooms, the all seeing eye, mountains and dismembered body parts. The psychedelic colors take him away to another universe deep in his subconscious.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Kennedy“My picture is about imagination. It explains a story book open with a whole bunch of random things coming out, such as stars, moons, trees, and the sun and ocean. It also shows a beautiful rainbow to display happiness.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Yuissa“My artwork represents music. Music is everywhere, and is used every day. I chose music because I love music. I did music signs all over the poster and a CD, represent music also, and a piano, because I love piano music. So this is why I chose music.”

What is your group’s artwork about?“We allowed the girls complete control of their panel. They wanted to simply be creative and they all did their own thing. In girl scouting one of the things we push is to allow girls to be themselves and think for themselves and this was a perfect opportunity to showcase this.”
Did you enjoy this project? Absolutely! The girls learned a lot about recycling/the planet and can’t wait to see their work displayed! If you could choose the next International Fiber Collaborative project what would you like to see? I think it would be amazing to get designers involved and have artists/students cover their runways or showrooms, or a wall in each of their stores
