Title of Artwork – “Love to Speak to Love”
Did you enjoy this project?
I am so inspired by the idea of a rocket full of dreams! The invention of the rocket itself is incredible,
how much fortitude it took to make it take off and how amazing to actually get a man into space both with such s
peeding velocity. We need the same magnificent imagination and dynamic action to make our dreams come true.
My dream is of utterly authentic communication with every human by every being.
If you could choose the next International Fiber Collaborative project what would you like to see?
Fiber covered handguns, grenades, rock launchers, landmines, AK-47s, torture devices and any other
tiny implements of annihilation attached to a fiber covered tank parked on the ramp of a fiber covered giant army transport plane
perpetually exhibited on the Washington Mall.
Techniques Used & Materials Used: Hand sewing, fabric, felt, trim, sequins
Tell us the story behind your panel:
The bottom of the panel has red trim which represents the Native Americans in North America.
Next is black trim for the Slaves brought to the United States. Yellow, the Chinese labor, Brown the Mexicans,
White trim equals the white man. The colors are in rows, all separate. The white on top the oppressor: cheating,
decimating, exploiting, abusing, hating and suppressing the other colors. There is no empathy. There is no empathy
because there is no understanding. The big black conversation bubble is the violent, argumentative and angry habit
we have of talking AT one another. The pink sequin at the lower right is the beginning essence of compassionate
communication. As more people speak in respectful considerate ways the open heartedness spreads: more and more ascending
pink sequins, transforming the black cloud of misunderstanding, distrust and fear into an overflowing, tender, kind and loving connection — the hearts. The result is the two round clusters of colored trim that include everyone as we come together
in an eternal hug of infinite love.
