Title: Even a Library Needs Friends
Dream Theme: Dreams and Wishes / Community
Materials and Techniques Used: Cotton fabrics were pieced for the front and back and layered with batting and then tied and invisibly stitched to hold the layers together. The wording and all the dreams were printed onto muslin fabric and adhered to the pieced cotton backgrounds and stitched in place. Some ribbons were appliquéd with fabric glue also.
Participants: Sue Birney, Special event coordinator at Winfield Public Library.
Janice Rhodes, President of Friends, created the panel.
Dreams were submitted by approximately ten Friends members.
Did you enjoy this project? It was a way for the group to begin thinking more seriously about the types of remodeling changes they’d like to see occur at the library as well as generating long range changes and wishes for the library.
What is your artwork about? Winfield, Kansas Public Library is preparing to celebrate its 100th Birthday on January 19, 2013. It will include A Centennial Literary Feast in the library stacks as well as a community wide reception to be held on the actual 100th year date of February 26 to which former board members, former library directors, and the entire community will be divided. Also during this 100th year of its existence, the library will be undergoing major rennovations and remodeling. Under these circumstances, the Friends felt it beneficial for members to express their wishes for the future of the Winfield Public Library.
