Did you enjoy working on this project? I loved every minute of this project. I don’t find enough time for art quilt projects because I make many traditional quilts each year for various projects. I will do more art quilts in the future.

Materials and techniques used: This project is totally machine pieced. I used a crazy quilt technique with a muslin foundation to make each section of the project. Fibers are couched over seam lines to enhance the Map. The fabrics are mostly cotton, but there are satins, silks and blends.

What is your submission about? I used crazy quilt techniques to show the diversity of the Kansas landscape and the crops that are grown here. Below the state “map” there is a subterranean section revealing layers of soil, rock, petroleum and water. Above the map is the wide open sky with a bright sun. I wanted to show the diversity of our state, which is far more interesting and beautiful than most people realize.
