2nd Quarter After School Artists created textile artworks to be part of the international Dream Rocket Project. The Dream Rocket project is a large scale art project based on creativity and teamwork. It is a multi-year project with an ultimate goal of collecting 5,000 to 8,000 artworks which will be assembled side by side to fully wrap a Saturn V Moon Rocket for a 60 day exhibition, scheduled for May 1 – June 30, 2015.
The students worked with a partner to develop the theme for their work, and used textiles to create their dream on burlap! The process of brainstorming, making a rough draft sketch, and editing as they worked is similar to the writing process they use in the regular classroom. This project, and the artists, were featured in the December 18 edition of the Willard Cross Country Times!
The work created by our students will be sent to San Diego, CA as part of the National Art Education Association annual conference in May. They will then become part of the Dream Rocket exhibit that will travel internationally until they are assembled at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL in 2015.
