Artists: Fiona, Grace, Camryn, Alison, Corinne, Alexis, Brianna, Shaylee and our Junior girl scout helpers: Julia and Emily
Leaders: Kerri Ross-McGuire and Amy Gallaher
Title: Batik Daisy
Theme: She who is brave is free. (Freedom)
Materials: We use a glue batik method to creat several pieces of colorful fabric. The girls drew on old pillowcases with bottles of glue. Once the glue dried, we painted the scraps with watered-down acrylics. The fabric was then washed in hot water to remove the glue. We cut the fabric into desired shapes to creat a collage that was attached to canvas with Mod Podge.
About: Our Daisy is the Daisy symbol that the Girl Scouts use. Each petal represents a positive characteristic, such as being friendly and helpful or considerate or caring or a specific activity such as “being a sister to every girl scout”. Making this daisy was an opportunity to reflect on the activities that we have completed. For example, our very small troop was able to raise $79 to purchase Christmas gifts and toiletry items for families in need in our community.

About: Our Batik Globe reflects the idea that of giving our troop of girl scouts a chance to dream, explore, and participate in their community in a meaningful way. By doing this we hope to help them to someday become confident, caring, creative women who are a vital part of their communities.
