Title: Remembering Anna
Materials: Materials – Various fibers, textiles, buttons and fabric paint. Hand and machine stitching and painting.
An artist friend screen-printed the central quote on organic cotton. It is surrounded by patchwork pieces found at a flea market and bordered in blue linen from my fabric stash. Some historic family photos were scanned, printed on fabric, machine sewn onto the quilt and then painted. The border is hand stitched.
About: I chose the theme of Community because to paraphrase Dorothy Day, the only solution to loneliness is love and love is found in Community. We all have or can make community be it our family of origin or families of friends. Since this piece will be shown at the Women’s Rights National Historic Park I chose to honor my Great Grandmother, Anna Jones Quinn Dusenbury Mendenhall, and her community of family and friends. In her 90+ years, she saw tremendous social changes and technological advances. She made it through the challenges of her life and times in large part because of her close-knit community. I wanted to honor her and acknowledge what an important role model she was for me.
