Yonkers Montessori Academy students are participating in the “Dream Rocket” project, an ambitious initiative of the International Fiber Collective, that links the humanities to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math.
The YMA students joined 15,000 of their peers from 17 countries and 46 states to create artwork that will be stitched together to wrap a planned replica of the Saturn V rocket that propelled the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon, where humans left their footprints more than 40 years ago.
The replica will be part of a temporary public art display at the NASA’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama where three of the original Saturn rockets are part of a permanent exhibit about the development of human spaceflight in this Smithsonian affiliated national landmark.
The students’ stunning contribution to the Dream Rocket Project honors the life of the beloved American First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt as a humanitarian and civil rights advocate. Their work will be on display at the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park from June 1 – August 1, 2014.
