Title: Mr. Edison’s “Soundy” Inventions

Theme: Science / Technology

Materials: First, I sketched out a drawing of a phonograph and his quote on a white piece of paper. Next, I colored both the phonograph and his quote with fabric crayons. Lastly, both the colored drawing and quote were transposed on a white fabric using a hand held hot iron.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, it was very fun and I learned new techniques working with fabric!

About: This artwork is about Mr. Edison’s phonograph that he invented in 1877. He made the statement “I want to see a phonograph in every American home.”

Title: Edison’s Invention

Theme: Science / Technology

Art Teacher: Michelle Rollings

Materials: Fabric, crayons, sheet of fabric

Technique: Drew Thomas Edison’s Movie Camera with one of his proverbs on a piece of paper and then colored with fabric crayons. Then I taped it to a piece of fabric and went over it with an iron, which caused the crayons wax to bleed onto the fabric.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, I had a lot of fun working on this interesting project.

About: I chose Thomas Edison’s movie camera because television is such a big thing nowadays. I also chose one of his proverbs to go alongside the drawing. The proverb expresses that you need to work hard to get maximum results.

The reason I chose the movie camera is because I couldn’t imagine how much work had to be put in to make such an invention. Not only did he make a new invention, he created new job opportunities and a whole new line of business. I admire him because he didn’t give up until he accomplished his goal.
