Title: Ideas, Inventions and Space #1

Theme: Science / Technology

Materials: Each of the seven panels is painted with acrylic paint and images were created from paper, fabric, paint and markers. In the early discussions about the project the students chose a color from the color wheel to symbolize their class.

Did you enjoy this project? The students have been extremely excited about the creation of their mixed media art work. From the idea phase through the final assembly students have found new and interesting ways to work collaboratively and share ideas. The only thing they were disappointed by was that their artwork would not actually be traveling in to outer space.

About: The students discussed inventions, technology and ideas that make our world a better place. We also discussed what it means to go in to space and all the technology needed to make outer space travel possible. Each 2nd grade class worked collaboratively using the light bulb as a symbol for great ideas. The teams in each class worked to paint a background, create images representing space, technology, inventions and inspiration. Some classes focused on what outer space looks like (both real and imagined), others focused on inventions and innovations that improve our lives from the past, present and hopefully the future.
