Did you enjoy this project? They loved it!
About: Our Self-Expression: Students discussed and wrote first about their views regarding freedom and equality and what that means to them as young Americans. Their sketches and writings were translated into a small fiber arts collage that was then combined with the rest of their classmates to create 3 full Dream Rocket quilt squares. Although their original intent and image from their sketch may not have totally translated to their final art piece, their first experience and the process of creating like a true fiber artist was gained. (If the original theme carried over to the final piece, even better!)
Strength in Numbers: As the 4″x4″ pieces were stitched together, the piece strengthened in aesthetic quality, purpose and meaning. Each small square is a small bit of the student artist, and it was a challenge for some of them to let it go out into the world to become a part of something larger. What a great learning experience!
