Title: “Women’s Rights”

Theme: Women’s Rights

Materials and techniques: Paper, pen and ink, paint, colored pencil, marker.

Artist statement:

“For our project we represented a woman as a tree because trees are strong like women are. To do this we layered water color under acrylic paint on top of ripped and layered watercolor paper. This envisions women’s rights because we are strong and powerful and we stand tall for what we believe in. The roots of a tree are strong and up hold the tree grounding it and keeping it firm in its place, similarly women are grounded with their ideas and grow together to stand as one and be strong in what we do.”

Teacher statement: The advanced students had a presentation from one of our history teachers on women’s suffrage. They developed their questions before hand and answered them during the presentation. The students were pit into groups of 2-3 and developed their ideas in a sketch book, then finished their 2×2 final for substitution.
