About: Crater Lake National Park has amazingly clear water and beautiful scenery. The park was once a volcano that collapsed after an eruption in 5700 B.C. Rain and snowmelt replaced the volcano and formed the deepest lake in the United States. The lake reaches 1900 ft in depth and contains only two species of fish, salmon and rainbow trout. Because of the park’s incredibly clear air, one can view over a hundred miles of the park while hiking along the 90 miles of trails.
