Title: Full Steam Ahead

Teacher: Mrs. Baer

Theme: Industrial Revolution

Materials and techniques: Watercolor, colored pencil, markers on white drawing paper, laminated.

Did you enjoy this project? Absolutely! Student’s loved reflecting on the Industrial Revolution and pretending they were in the shoes of a child worker during that time.

About: Students dove into the history of the Industrial Revolution and the use of child labor. We completed a one-point perspective lesson and students applied what they learned to a train perspective drawing. Students also completed a panel with the theme “What does full steam ahead mean to you”. Many chose to illustrate the advancements in technology over the past century. Students finished their pieces by adding a journal entry as if they were a child living during the Industrial Revolution, working under the conditions of that time.

Did you enjoy this project? Absolutely! My students really enjoyed this project and working outside of their normal school hours (I held an art camp for an hour after school for a week). I loved working alongside them, watching their creativity blossom!

About: Following the same model of my students, we dove into the history of the Industrial Revolution and the use of child labor. We completed a 1 point perspective lesson and students applied what they learned to a train perspective drawing. Students also completed a panel with the theme “What does full steam ahead mean to you”. Many chose to illustrate the advancements in technology over the past century.
