Title: The Future of the Past

Teacher: Mrs. Clark

Theme: Imagination

Materials and techniques: Colored pencil, acrylic paint, charcoal pencil, and Kopek marker.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, I draw and paint every day. I loved the flight and dream concept, as well as working in such a large format.

About: I’ve long had an interest in the Steam Punk genre, and it’s references to Victorian ideas about future stream and smoke powered machinery. I imagined a girl who owns a shop that sells ingenious machines. The viewer can see her working on robotic wings that will be powered by steam. Through the back window behind her, one can see her world filled with unusual machinery and flying machines. My concept was also heavily influenced by Leonardo da Vinci’s strong images for the future. His creative sketches and designs for flying machines really inspired me.
