Did you enjoy this project? Yes, this was a solo work and the artist enjoyed having the freedom to choose how to visually interpret the work of Paul Lawrence Dunbar.

About: The work of art is based on Paul Lawrence Dunbar’s We Wear the Mask. The painting and fabric collage was inspired by the vivid imagery expressed in the poem.

Materials and techniques: Acrylic painting, natural fiber collage, ink writing and drawing.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, it was a chance for students to plan and accommodate the desires of the group. Collaboration is tough, but this group worked hard to stay true to the poem and to the wishes of the group.

About: We tried to create a project that included the work of as many of our Art Club members as possible and included imagery from Paul Lawrence Dunbar’s poem, Sympathy. One work quickly became two, as there are many vivid images that are communicated in this poem.

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, we researched different techniques to paint the clouds and looked for simple airplane shapes that could be added to both of the works about the Wright Brothers.

About: We addressed the Wright Brothers with two works of art. This project thought about the perspective one might have, looking up, and spotting planes above. This was an easy choice since we all attend Wright Brothers Middle School!

Did you enjoy this project? Yes, we looked at lots of aerial photographs and maps to get ideas about the shapes and colors to use for the farm plots and looked for simple airplane shapes that could be added to both of the works about the Wright Brothers.

About: We addressed the Wright Brothers with two works of art. This project thought about the perspective one might have, looking down, and spotting planes above the landscape. This was an easy choice since we all attend Wright Brothers Middle School!
