Theme: Dangerous Opinions

Theme summary: In Massachusetts in the 1600s, Roger Williams thought there was a better way to do things. Williams felt the government could control what people did, but not what they thought or believed. The government got its power from the people. For the people in Massachusetts, these ideas were ‘new and dangerous’ and Roger Williams told he must leave. So he did, and in 1636 founded Rhode Island on these very same dangerous ideas.
