Title: Think

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Science / Technology

About: How we made our artwork was by first discussing what we were going to sketch and do. Then we started to sketch and go over our sketch using a mixture of toothpaste and aloe vera lotion in a squeeze bottle. After the toothpaste mixture dried, we started to paint. We had scratching tools to get the toothpaste off. What we made was a person that was frustrated that his computer wasn’t working. Our theme was “Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”. We showed that by having a man sitting in a chair looking at his computer in frustration. The cord that is unplugged causing the computer not to work is twisted to look like it spells “think??” We also gave the person a speech bubble that reads “UUGGAHH”. The computer cord means to think about WHY his computer is not working. The computer reads “ERROR”. They all mean something.

Title: Teamwork on a Rainy Day

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Imagination

About: To make this art we used paper, paint, paint brushes, clay tools, lotion and toothpaste. The theme of our art is “Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”. We showed this theme by painting two people using an umbrella to stop themselves from getting wet in the rain. The umbrella in the painting shows how it could save the people from the rain, which is clever. The umbrella is ingenuity and the rain is adversity.

Title: An Artist’s Life

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Science / Technology

About: Our artwork was based off the theme; Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”. We made our artwork by using pencils, a soft piece of paper, paint, a secret mixture with lotion, toothpaste and aloe vera and clay tools. Before we did this, we had to come up with ideas on what our artwork could be. Then we came up with the idea of making a painter showing ingenuity. Our theme was about the painter thinking; “How can I make my painting better?” We showed this by making him have a thought bubble saying, “?”. You can tell that he was an artist because artwork was around him. We are very proud about our artwork.

Title: The Robot

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Science / Technology

About: “Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”, said the art teacher. We had to express ingenuity in the face of adversity in art. We got into groups and the teacher read us how these soldiers used tools in ways that were unusual. For example they used shovels as frying pans. After that we got into our groups. First we thought of what to do. Two of the students in the group had an idea. We couldn’t decide so we took a vote. Then the robot idea won. It is about this person who makes a robot machine to do his homework. Then the robot failed. Now he is going to have to fix it. There is a book about robots he is going to use. Next, we sketched the robot and everything else. Then we used a mixture the teacher made. It is toothpaste and Aloe Vera lotion in a bottle. We traced over the pencil marks. Next we painted the picture with acrylic paint. Finally the teacher washed off the toothpaste mixture. Our beautiful art was done. Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”

Title: Monkey

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Conservation

About: For the NASA Spaceship Project, our theme was, “Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”. This means clever in the face of odds against you. For our project we used a combination of toothpaste and aloe vera lotion. First, we started brainstorming our ideas, then we started to sketch and then we painted. In our artwork we showed a monkey who needs a home because a tiger is chasing the monkey. The monkey looks at a tree and pictures this tree to be his home. In conclusion, the overall structure was made by fifth grade creative students.

Title: Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity

Teacher: Mrs. Goldberg

Theme: Conservation

About: The materials we used during the project was a combination of Aloe Vera hand cream and toothpaste, pencils, acrylic paint and a canvas. First we brainstormed. We hit a couple of bumps in the road but prevailed nevertheless. Then we sketched with some more bumps but we finally got it. Next we put our sketch on the canvas. After, we put the combination on the lines. Last we painted and made it look great; not perfect, because it’s not supposed to be perfect. Overall, our theme was “Ingenuity in the Face of Adversity”. To show this we showed a person going against the current, reaching out to grab someone’s hand. That showed our theme by stating, “no matter what you will find a way”.
