Western Ohio

Western Ohio (20)

Created by the 3rd Grade Brownie Girl Scout Troop #11299 from St. Pius X School: Toledo, Ohio
With the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio
Organizer: Michelle Buck
Title: "Seeing Stars: The Constellations of the Milky Way"
Dream Theme: Space
Materials & Techniques Used: Fabric markers on patch worked blue jean
What is your group's artwork about?
The girls decided they wanted to participate when presented with the idea. The theme of Space was chosen for the purpose of location of venue exhibit. We have 13 girls and with the new constellation, Ophiuchus, there are 13 constellations! The girls voted to have an individual swatch of material instead of one big design.
Learning and drawing out the star patterns with the glow-in-the-dark fabric paint was a lot of fun!
Participants: Emma Bodmer, Hannah Crosley, Zoe Molnar, Lily Curtis, Grace Foor, Keara Elmore, Sophia Dauterman, Izzy Huss, Kyra Buck, Madison Griffin, Imogen Ryan, Anna Lawrence, and Aili Meyers, Heather Foor, and Michelle Buck.
What other IFC projects could the IFC do?
It would be most wonderful to see an International Fiber Collaborative project donned on the only International Peace Memorial (Perry's Monument) located in Put-In-Bay, South Bass Island, Ohio.

a theme. Then one day they saw it on a shirt. They got into the
recycling part by getting all the materials donated. They
reused a canvas that had been used and spilled on and would have
wound up in the garbage. And the paint was also recycled.

Materials & Techniques Used: Paint and Fabric
What is the story behind your artwork?
"Our Daisy troop is made up of kindergardeners and 1st graders.
When trying to decide a focus for the pannel, you can imagine all the
wonderful ideas we had. There were so many in fact we had to just say
"keep it Green" so we could save the animals, recycle and have clean air.
My girls really took this to heart and we had great talks about what
they could do to help at home, school and in the community."
"We did 2 Daisy Flowers the colors represent what a Daisy patch looks like.
When they earn a petal they are placed on the front of their uniform and
will at the end form the flower. Many of our petals tie into the Dream
Rockets goals.

Title of Artwork - "Peace in our Community"
Dream Theme - Peace
Who was involved?
Emily Carnahan, Linda Shinkle, Mandy Sharp & Troop 48378
Materials and Techniques Used:
Machine and Hand Sewing. We used Fabric and fabric crayons, a sheet, felt and paper.
What is your artwork about?
We chose to use the Dream Theme peace because we want to
help our community have more peace. We also made the peace sign upside down to
represent the girl scout promise. When we say our promise we hold up a sign, which
looks like we are holding up 3 fingers and then we say the promise. So the upside
down peace sign looks like our sign. All of our girls drew a picture of themselves
and added their names. We sewed it together and made our peace panel.

people to dream and pursue their dreams. Locally
created quilt panels will be on display at the Duke Energy Children's Museum
