What is the story behind your artwork?
Having already facilitated the making of panels by Jeparit Primary School and Horsham Uniting Youth, I was looking for inspiration for one about women. A couple of 'off the cuff' comments by women friends and family about what they would do 'one day' when they didn't have to look after children, husband or work led to this panel.
I asked a number of other women friends and family if they would like to contribute something that they would like to do if they did not have family and work calls on their time and if money was no object. Some also provided the image or the idea for the image for me to create. I was excited by the range of 'dreams' that came out. Most were a perfect fit for the person, but some did surprise me. I looked for groupings to aid the design and formed two groups:
new places, more creativity.
These are the creative activities:
•Archaeological digs
Creative sewing
•Dancing
•Drawing
•Further study
•Growing a (more) beautiful garden
•Landscape painting
•Pony Riding
•Relaxing in Nature
•Sailing
•Writing
It was refreshing to realize that so many of us just wanted more time to do things that we love doing now. All of us love being Mums and do not resent the time that that takes up, and some of us are closer to 'having it all' than we realize, by being able to grab some time to do the things that we love to do — even if we do so much that we get very tired.
Within the places were three countries, all of which I had visited years ago, making me feel very
fortunate. These are the places to visit:
•A new home closer to town
•England especially the Guards at Buckingham Palace
•Hawaii especially the dancing
•Lake Mungo (NSW, Australia) archaeololgical region or the antiquities
•Scotland especially Loch Ness
•Victoria's high country in East Gioosland and the Kiewa Valley and the Mt Cole Cottage
•The World!
Another thing I realized while sewing it all together, was that most of the things in this panel are things that I would love to have more time to do too. So I left the names off the specific activities and places. Perhaps others would feel that they would like to do some of the other things too. I hoped that as others see this, they might also appreciate the pleasures in life that we have and share in common with our friend and family circles.
And for those who have places they would like to visit- I hope that they will make it in the future.

What is your artwork about?
"The first ideas I had centered on the theme of 'peace, but as I explored the website and photos posted on the Flicker page, I saw that many others had the same idea! I considered other themes but the one that kept returning to my mind was that of 'community'.
After all, if we all felt a sense of community, there would surely be peace! In deciding on my implementation techniques, I kept returning to my desire to include the young children I care for each day because classroom community is something I always work very hard on creating. If we raise our children to value living and working in a close-knit community, maybe we can embrace hope for a more peaceful future."
Techniques & Materials Used:
All materials were things I had in my studio stash. I intentionally did not purchase anything new for this project. Fabrics used: muslin & an assortment of cotton quilting fabrics, double-sided Pellon Wonder Under, thread, Warm & Natural batting, buttons and ribbon -preprinted with the words: inspire, hope, believe, create, imagine and dream.
Did you enjoy this project?
"Yes, I did! It took me a long while to settle on an idea. Once l had the seed of my idea going, although I still procrastinated some, I finally relaxed and let the creative juices flow. I especially liked finding a way to let the very young (under two years old) children in my classroom be a part of both the process and the main design element (their traced hands as the leaves on the tree)."

★ Created by Girl Scout Brownies Troop 3271 from Blue Springs, Missouri
Title: “Acceptance”
Dream Theme: Community
Organizer: Kindra Van Hoesen
With the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri
What is your group's artwork about?
I am the leader of a Brownie Girl Scout troop for girls with special needs.
Since our girls really don't understand what a dream is (other than the kind
they have while sleeping) the moms discussed what our dreams were for our daughters.
We decided that more than anything we wanted our girls to be accepted for who they were,
disabilities and all.
I had the moms give me a picture of the girls and asked the girls to
draw a picture for me. I scanned their artwork into the computer and printed
it onto fabric. I scanned in their picture and put their heads inside the flowers.
These flowers are above a heart labeled "Acceptance" because these girls truly
blossom once accepted.
Did you enjoy this project?
Yes, however I have never made a quilt before in my life!
Participants:
Kindra Van Hoesen (adult leader), Allison Van Hoesen, Anessa Hodges, Ella Raney, Faith Hogan, Mia Tarantello, Olivia Goff, Sarah Roberts
Techniques & Materials Used: Fabric, scanned images of artwork onto fabric, appliquéd pictures scanned onto fabric.

★By the Members of the Westchester Art Therapy Association (WATA) created this panel.
From Mamaroneck, New York
Dream Theme - Imaginationa / The Arts
★Title - "Imagination The Portal to Creativity"
While not all members of WATA were present for the creation of this panel we hope it speaks to the collective voice of our group.
★As art therapists we recognize, the importance of one's imagination and creativity for invention, research, and working through social issues, environmental issues, self-exploration and self-awareness.
"Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight."(www.americanarttherapyassociation.org/aata-aboutus.html)
★Our dream for the future is that the creative arts will be recognized as one of the primary forces of our growth and development as individuals, as a country and community of countries-our world and our universe. Through mainstreaming the use of the arts, incorporating them into our everyday life, we are enabled (as will be future generations) to explore, express and create new ideas, as well as to learn more about others and ourselves.
★Imagination and creativity play a role in every aspect of our lives. We hope this is not overlooked. Our dream is that more art making opportunities are afforded to future generations in order to allow imaginations to flourish. With value placed on imagination and creativity, we can continue to be leaders in inventions (medical, technology, ecological, etc), research, working through social, community and world issues, environmental issues, as well as supporting personal awareness, growth and development.
★When we use our imagination amazing things happen.
