Theme Chosen: Art, Space, and Peace / Community
Number of participants: 2 - 6
Materials and techniques used: Colored pencils, pastels, and crayon
What is your artwork about? Space, remembering those we lost, and creating dreams
Artwork 1: Essay by Paige
“My drawing represents the World Trade Centers, peace, music, and outer-space. The World trade Centers were drawn because they are important remembrance to the United States. The other three were drawn because I like them. Music is a big part of my life. Since this is going into outer-space, I thought I’d draw it.”
Artwork 2: Essay by James
“My painting is inspired by Stephen Hawking. I was at my residence and was watching my evening program on the television. Stephan was explaining his theory on time travel; a picture of a galazy popped up and I felt compelled to draw and paint this wonderful piece of art. It’s going to be put on a rocket and burned up in the atmosphere.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Emma
“A child’s imagination, unleashing genies, dreaming of new worlds; becoming a true hero; and where lions become kings, is so very precious and a blessing to watch and experience. Children are deprived of expressing these God given gifts. Now with phones and internet the child’s imagination is becoming extinct. Music and art are ways children may try to express themselves. These expressions or gifts should be taken into consideration by the guardians as talent. Give the children the freedom to let their imaginations roam free. Music and are becoming less and less appreciated. Bring the appreciation back. Give the children the ability to dream and imagine because once they hit the real world, the sense of happily ever after is gone.”

So yes in my mind what I have done is a good choice and is representation for health.”

Artwork 3: Essay by Ben“The exploration of space is important to learn more about our solar system. In the future we will learn more about space, if we explore space more. Also we will maybe live on a different plant. In the present it will be a long term goal, but it is important to try to find life on other planets. Also it will help if we need new resources.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Connor“Police brutality is a problem here in America. Law enforcement is constantly called in to break up peaceful protest. This drawing is important to the present and future because music is and always will be important to the world. Especially 2 Chainz’s amazing raps.”

It’s important to the future because it could be part of a new TV show. It just reminds me of something different, how everything changes. Nothing stays the same.”

WE can discover great things in the future with science. Hopefully we can things that we never dreamed about doing.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Hayley“My design represents the theme of equality and energy. The rainbow background symbolizes the equality of all people. The yin-yang symbolizes positive and negative energy all throughout life. This theme is important in both the present and the future. This world needs to accept everyone and have complete equality.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Sarah“My theme was science and it’s various elements. Unity is the main principle of design used in this project. It is used well because all the objects drawn have to do with nature and science. Rhythm is another principle property used in this piece because of the position of stars across the drawing and the various types of science on each branch. Movement is also used going around each branch by reading each type of science. My theme, science, is important to the present and the future so we can further advance in society.”

Artwork 3: Essay by Amber“My themes were peace, space, and recycling. Unity and pattern is used in the background. Emphasis is used on the peace sign and recycle arrows. I used movement in the planets and rhythm in the stars. Peace is important to both the present and the future because war divides Earth. Space is also important to the present and future because it is important to question and learn about the unknown. Recycling is important because there are too many landfills. Also, making things like plastic destroys the atmosphere.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Karson“My design represents the World Trade Center and how they were once there, but are not anymore. I felt like this was the best theme for me to do. This is very historical to me. They were a big part of NYC.”

What is your art about?
Marco: I used “Be Kind” because I see people aren’t really kind to others.
Jamie: It just makes sense to me like common sense to treat others how you want to be treated.
Gabriella: I got my ideas for my artwork from a quote that I saw. I chose the quote, “Actions speak louder than words but words weigh more than actions,” because it shows that words can really hurt someone so you should always think about what you say.
Xitlalli: The meaning behind the quotes we used because all and everybody is equal and no one should be treated less like a person than another. No one is better than another, we are all equal.
Hannah: So many people don’t respect others so I wrote, “Respect others personal Properties.”
Joel: Because people can be mean for what they believe in and sometimes people can get hurt because of what they believe in.
Esaell: The reason I pick a stop sign is because people always stop at a sign. So what not stop bullying?
Deedra: I got my idea like my was Never be a Bully be a Buddy because a bully is mean to most and a buddy will help out with a bully problem like a best friend.
Liseth: I used the works “be a buddy not a bully” because I have been judged and bullied in school and outside. I got this idea from so many people and from my experience.
Jackson: I did that because I want people to stop bullying each other. Everyone was a piece of fabric.

My project shows equality between the four major races.”

Participants: Aaron, Abbie, Kayla, Stephon
What is your artwork about? Recycling, technology, and art education.
Artwork 1: Essay by Abbie“For the Dream Rocket Project I have chosen the theme of art. I believe art is very important to our society. WE use art to express ourselves and the things around us. Art is used throughout the world to express different beliefs and ideas. Art is also used to create many things about us such as artwork, technology, and the buildings we live in. Without art our lives would be very dull. My drawing represents the theme of art by showing the vivid colors and some of the tools we use that allow us to create.”

Theme Chosen: Space, Peace, and Visionary/Community
Materials and techniques used: Pen, and crayon
What is your artwork about? Space exploration, World peace, Imagination
Artwork 1: Essay by Torrin“For the Dream Rocket Project I decided on using the theme of Peace. Peace is something that people think about every now and then and in times of war but for the most part is a subject that is too often neglected. I think that peace is something that should be thought of more often and that the world should strive harder for. That is the inspiration behind my picture. It is the world enveloped in peace, just like it should be.”
Artwork 2: Essay by Shelbi“I chose visionary because I believe that everyone looks at things differently. Someone could look at a pond and just see the water and mud at the bottom. When I look at a pond though, yes, I’ll see the water, I’ll also see the reflection. Two things that I think are important are art and photography. Everyone needs a way to express their creativity, imagination and love of something, and I think those two things are great ways to do it. Picture it. Live it. Love it. Capture it.”
Artwork 3: Essay by Savannah“Well I think kids these days need more energy so they can go outside and play and get exercise and they also need to have a good imagination to make up games and stuff to play and one way to keep kids energized is music like they can join the school marching band. And another one is art like you could throw paints, painted on canvas. And also I think peace is important because everybody need to be nice to each other and love each other.”
Artwork 4: Essay by Natalie“My design represents the theme; the theme I chose is space. My drawing represents space because it shows a scene of space with planets and stars. Title: Even a Library Needs Friends
Dream Theme: Dreams and Wishes / Community

Materials and Techniques Used: Cotton fabrics were pieced for the front and back and layered with batting and then tied and invisibly stitched to hold the layers together. Participants: Sue Birney, Special event coordinator at Winfield Public Library.
Janice Rhodes, President of Friends, created the panel.
Dreams were submitted by approximately ten Friends members.
Did you enjoy this project? It was a way for the group to begin thinking more seriously about the types of remodeling changes they'd like to see occur at the library as well as generating long range changes and wishes for the library.
