 A public art collaborative – on a global scale - is happening in Huntsville, Alabama in 2010.

In May and June of 2010, the 363 foot vertical Saturn V Rocket replica, located in front of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (Huntsville, Alabama), will be fully wrapped with a giant 30,467 square foot dream quilt. Included in this public art wrap will be approximately 8,000 panels made by students and individuals from over 100 countries. This community-based endeavor will likely be the largest collaborative art project ever accomplished. Not only will this wrap embody the power of a global collaborative, but it will hold the individual dreams for a better tomorrow. Dream Rocket themes include: health, energy, peace, technology, science, and space.

Washington, August 23 (ANI): A leading acamadecian has announced a collaborative art project using 8,000 panels to wrap around the Saturn V Moon Rocket, which is one of America's 20th-century icons.

The announcement was made by Professor Jennifer Marsh, one of the world's leading figures in collaborative public art.

By May 2010, Marsh plans to have 8,000 panels, created by students and individuals from more than 100 countries, stitched together and installed as a 36,467-square-foot wrap on the huge vertical Saturn V rocket replica located at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

"Anyone can be involved," said Marsh, who teaches public art at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Each of the panels will express a "dream theme," representing the dreams of each of the contributing artists from around the world.

Marsh's corresponding website encourages participants to incorporate dream themes including health, energy, peace, technology, science, community, conservation, poverty and space.

"We want people all over the world to dream those audacious dreams, and to inspire them to make their dreams come true," said Marsh. "The Dream Rocket will symbolize not only the dreams of individuals, but the power of global collaboration," she added.

"The Saturn V Moon Rocket itself is the ideal example of achieving a dream that seems impossible," said Marsh.

"Whether your dream is curing cancer, going to Mars, or ending world hunger, the Saturn V is an inspiring visual reminder that any dream can come true. If we can work together to put a man on the moon, we can do anything," she added.

David Williams, president of The University of Alabama in Huntsville, praised Marsh for her vision on this project.

"A crucial element of both art and technology is the importance that creativity plays in both disciplines for the benefit of society," he said.

"We applaud Professor Marsh's initiative to bring together the dreams of a world through artistic elements and tie those inspirations to one of the most enterprising engineering projects in history," he added.

The Dream Rocket is a part of the International Fiber Collaborative, a global initiative that gives people the opportunity to collaborate with other communities and countries worldwide on a single mission. (ANI)

Art prof's project to coat rocket with thousands of picturesque panels

Many people in Huntsville know of the artist Christo. His large art creations with wife Jean-Claude include wrapping the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont Neuf bridge in Paris.

By this time next year, Christo may know of Huntsville, thanks to a local artist's ambitious plan to "wrap" the 37-story tall Saturn V rocket model in front of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- In May 2010, the 37-story Saturn V rocket will be "wrapped," in more than 8,000 pieces of hand-made fabric panels, and will become "The Dream Rocket."

This morning, Jennifer Marsh, a visiting art professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, spoke to more than more than 50 people at at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center about her vision for Huntsville's most visible landmark.

Dubbed "a global collaborative public art project," The Dream Rocket will feature more 37,000 square-feet of hand-made panels.The panels, according to Marsh, will come from volunteers and sponsors from "every state in the U.S and 100 countries."

Saturn wrapped in dreams

Marsh said The Dream Rocket, one of the word's largest public art projects, will create both tourism dollars and global recognition.

"Let's get the world dreaming again," Marsh said. "Nothing is impossible...Next May, the eyes of the world will be on Huntsville."

Following Marsh's speech, several officials, including Rep. Parker Griffith, Mayors Tommy Battle and Paul Finely, U.S. Space & Rocket Center CEO Larry Capps, director of the Alabama Tourism Department Lee Sentell, UAH President Davis Williams and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Burea Judy Ryals, applauded the project.

The Dream Rocket will on display at the U.S Space and Rocket Center in May and June of 2010.

It will even take on a new name during this time, as it serves as a gigantic canvas to art from around the world.

The idea behind The Dream Rocket is to wrap the Saturn V in a giant 36,000 square-foot quilt, made up of 8,000 individual panels. Each of the panels will express a "dream theme", with each participant's hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow.

"The spirit of the Saturn V teaches us that when people collaborate on an important goal and put aside their differences, nothing is impossible," said Jennifer Marsh, Director of the Dream Rocket. "Anything can be accomplished."

Students and individuals from more than 100 countries will create the panels, and you can create one as well.

"We want people all over the world to dream those audacious dreams, and to inspire them to make their dreams come true," Marsh added. "The Dream Rocket will symbolize not just the dreams of individuals, but also the power of global collaboration."

... I had just finished wrapping the gas station project in New York, and then the Tree project here in Huntsville. I was thrilled with the participation from people all over the world. I felt that these projects had tapped into something important. People WANTED to collaborate.

I wanted to do another wrap project. I was hired by UAH and moved here…all the time thinking "what should I wrap next?"

And when I learned the history of the Saturn V – how the odds makers put 1000-1 odds against putting a man on the moon before the end of the decade – how it was considered an "impossible dream"...

Well… that's where the idea of Big Dreams and the Saturn V came together...
