Letter to the President

Letter to the President

Recently I had asked Courtney Weida (President of our Board) to write a letter to the President asking permission to display submitted student artwork in the White House.

We all take turns doing this every few months, knowing that the likely hood is very slim to none that we would be granted permission, but it doesn't hurt to try!

So, we actually did get a rejection letter in the mail (see attached) I was thrilled to have actually received a response!  It was exciting to see it in the mail!

A note from Ann....

"The month came and went!  The Gaffney community is honored to be a part of The Dream Rocket

experience.  The display has provided young students a vision of what could be; goals and dreams

do come true for those who "work" to succeed. Effort goes a long way."

Memo on Tuesday July 26, 2011

Our hearts and prayers go out to our fellow participant Nina Lise Moen and her country - Norway - for those families and friends whom lost their loved ones this past week. You are in our thoughts.

Sencerily,

Jennifer Marsh

Artwork created by Nina Lise Moen

By Nina Lise Moen from Norway
Panel Name: "Comfort"
Dream Theme: "Community"
Materials & Techniques Used: Cotton fabrics, fabric paint, machine applique and free motion quilting
What is the story behind your panel?
"I have always had a soft spot for children, especially children who have lost their parents and are left to fight for themselves, and children growing up in an abusive environment where home is anything but safe.
I am so lucky to be a grandmother of a wonderful little boy and get to spend a lot of time with him. One day, when he was snuggling into my arms watching children's TV, I looked at him and thought.....
..."all children should have this, someone they are so totally comfortable and safe with: someone who will comfort them when they are sad or scared or just needs a soft place to land.... My next thought was... "I have found my dream theme!"
I had an idea of how I would translate my dream into fabric, but one day the image of these two birds popped into my head. I drew a little sketch, and later a full size illustration which I used as an applique pattern."

Tuesday July 26, 2011

I received this email from Carrie Cummins regarding a wonderful idea in which her Girl Scout Troop is participating in and so I wanted to share.....

"Our girl scout troop 41282 entered into the Ohio Clermont County Fair, the theme was imagine the possibilities in scouting. And of course we entered a poster board displaying our group photo of us with our dream panels. We also included on the poster parts of the dream rocket brochures, postcard, badge and where our panels have been and where they are going next. I will let you know how we place on our troop entry. Just a thought did you think about state fairs to display the panels? They usually have buildings where they exhibit things such as quilt shows, etc"Sealed

Important Notice (address change)
As of July 15, 2011 the Dream Rocket Office will be on the move to Kansas State. We have accepted a partnership with Washburn University based in Topeka in hopes to assist them in their continued efforts to provide art based opportunities for Kansas State schools, individuals, and groups. We hope to provide these opportunities through the Dream Rocket Project framework, workshops, public events, and continued lobbying efforts. As this is not a permanent move, we are thrilled to now have the opportunity to once again engage a new community. We now have worked in Syracuse, New York; Huntsville, Alabama; and now Topeka, Kansas! Our team has been preparing for this move for several months now and expect a seamless transition for the IFC.
