Who was involved?
Brownies of GS Troop 214: Riley Cobb, Kaitlyn Hill, Cassie Partin, Skylar Partin, Assistant Leaders Michelle Thacker and Tammy Siler helped the girls make the rough drafts and final panels. Assistant Leader Leigh Ann Cobb then put the quilt panel together.
Techniques Used & Materials Used:
The back panel piece is a blue cotton star/space quilt sheet onto which the girls individual white panels were sewn. The individual white panels are a glittery cotton quilt sheet. The girls used acrylic craft paint to decorate the panels.
What is your groups artwork about?
Girl Scout Troop 214 of the Kentucky Wilderness Road Council is a small multi-level troop that serves the community of Frakes, KY in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Since the Juniors of Troop 214 were using their quilt panel as part of the requirement to earn the "Power of Team" Badge in their Girl Scout Agent of Change Journey, we decided to have a separate panel to let our four Brownies participate in the Dream Rocket Project.
The Brownies decided on ways that they see themselves helping the community in the future.
*Kaitlyn chose to the theme of helping veterans
*Skylar chose the theme of keeping our waterways free from oil and other containments
*Cassie chose the theme of keeping the community beautiful by picking up litter
*Riley chose the theme of helping endangered species.
They used acrylic craft paint to make a scene on each individual panel. Riley's mom, Leigh' Ann; then put the individual panels onto b1ue star background panel and added the felt start with "GS 214" written on it.
This was an excellent project which allowed these young girls to think about different ways they could help the community.

Tell us the story behind your panel?
The Juniors of Troop 214 in the Kentucky Wilderness Road Council are working of the "It's Your World — Change It!" Journey in preparation for their Bronze Award. Part of the requirement to earn the "Power of Team" Badge is to come up with-a•"SUpergirl" story to show how a person can take something they care about and strive for long-lasting change. The girls are then to share their story with others. Our girls decided to use the Dream Rocket Project as their way of spreading their stories. The girls decided on Conservation/Environment as the theme for the panel and each girl picked a country around the world for which they had concern.
*Lona picked the South American Rainforest area
*Olivia chose Africa
*Katie chose Australia
*Morgan chose Antarctica
Each girl was then given an 11.x 11 inch square and they used acrylic craft paint to make a scene from each country. Then the girls used felt to make different animals and glued them to the squares. Our Cadette; habella, then used cross-strtehing material felt, yarn and beads to make the sun in the middle of the panel. She used different color glitter to make the name of our panel "Girl Scouts Can Make a Difference All Around the World". Her mother, Kellie, sewed the individual panels onto the blue background.

"Each girl traced their own hand & arm onto fabric. After cutting out their arms the girls used old pieces of ribbon, buttons, etc. and learned to sew their items onto their fabric arms. The girls always want to do something to help make a difference or to help someone in the
community by collecting food, toys, or blankets for the homeless shelter or the soldiers over seas. They also collect things for the animal shelter. The girls feel that even though they are small they do make a difference on the community so why not the world."

about?"Our girls were learning about global neighbors and our different cultures. They decided on the theme "Peace". With all the news of
fighting and military action, they wanted to focus on what the world could be if we celebrated our differences. They chose the words
"Love, World, Peace" to convey their thoughts of how we should join together as one world trying to understand each other with love and
peace at heart. They put flags from all over the world painted on small people who encircle the earth. The smiley faces were for the joy they felt
by meeting new people and learning new cultures."

"Very Much! We discussed the different countries represented and the girls really learned a lot. Plus, the added artistic bonus which let them be
imaginative."

"We began our troop this year talking about having helping hands in our families by helping mom & dad by picking up toys, watching
baby brothers/babysisters, sweeping, raking leaves, and by helping our teacher at church or school. It seems that everywhere we turn,
this is our theme. We helped to make Christmas brighter/sweeter for boys & girls less fortunate through Operation Christmas Child, and
we are working on a collaborative project for a local nursing home by putting together some giftbags, shoes, clothing, candy, and whatever other
needs there are. The theme for this panel just seemed to flow out of all of that. It is our desire to use our hands as an expression of love,
care, and concern to the needs of our community locally and globally. That will truley make the world a better place for the future."

What is your groups panel about?
The girls are very concerned about world peace. They always say, "Why can't peoplejust get along?" When we started talking about the project all of the girls wanted to represent people from every ethnic group. They wanted to use fabrics with many textures to show the differences in all of us. They expressed a desire to show many skin tones for all the cultures of the world. They cut out shapes of their hands in different color fabrics. They chose to put them around the outside of the panel to"reach out" to the world. The idea was basically that all the hands are different, but they are all still hands. I guess this translates to "we are all different, but we are all human, which makes us all the same."

Dream Theme - World Community
Who Participated: Girl Scout Junior Troop 1221: Camae, Elle, Emily, Gillian, Ivey, Jillian, Julia, Katherine, Katie, Kaylea, Lauren, Lexie, Maria, Samantha, and Sydney.
Techniques Used & Materials Used: We selected "reused" materials: a white sheet from Goodwill, and fabric remnants for sashing. We ironed fabric onto freezer paper for easier handling while coloring. The girls used crayons and fabric markers to draw directly on the fabric or onto sandpaper transfers. The images were ironed to melt the crayon into the fabric and heat-set the markers. The girls machine-pieced their individual squares to the sashing, signed the back panel with fabric markers, the pieces were joined into a single quilt panel by machine, and the quilt was hand tacked.
Tell us the story behind your panel: "The girl scouts drew their visions for the future of our world community. Their hopes for the future included finding a cure for breast cancer, keeping the Earth clean, going green, stopping racism, driving flying cars, saving the oceans, making school fun, and having world peace."
